There are Ten Intangible Sefiroth, the number of the ten fingers, five opposite, and in the center is set the Covenant of Unity like the Organ of the Tongue, and like the Organ of Nakedness.
It takes very little personal cleverness to clearly see the underlying metaphor of this passage as the six-pointed Star of David. The phrase ‘five opposite’ seems vague and confusing until one reads further on to where a center (chest or torso) is mentioned along with two other body parts, namely the Mouth (Organ of the Tongue) and the Genitals (Organ of Nakedness). Looking back at the ‘five opposite’phrase, one can now map out the right and left hands on either side of the center and same with the right and left feet just below them and also on both sides of the center (designated the Covenant of Unity). The correct points on the Star of David can be listed as follows:
Upper Right Point: Left Hand ‘five…’
Upper Left Point: Right Hand ‘…opposite’
Lower Right Point: Left Foot ‘five…’
Lower Left Point: Right Foot ‘…opposite’
Central Hexagon: Covenant of Unity ‘in the center is set the…’
Upper Center Point: Organ of the Tongue ‘like the…’
Lower Center Point: Organ of Nakedness ‘and like the…’
For some of the more skeptical readers, this analysis may seem to be little more than mere personal imagination. Even so, there are a growing number of scholars who say that the Sepher Yetzirah most definitely refers to the geometric shape known as the hexagram and thus, the Star of David. This passage (Sepher Yetzirah: Chapter 1, Verse 3) from the very beginning of the text is indeed a not so clever comparison of the human body to the Star of David. Nothing else fits as perfectly.
